HOMEWORK EXTENSION ACTIVITY
The Bureau of Crime statistics and Research is a special branch of the Attorney-General's Department. The bureau's role is to analyse crime statistics, look for trends and 'crime hotspots' and identify factors that may lead to crime. Each year the bureau collates statistics relating to crimes reported in New South Wales and publishes its findings. 
  1. Access the Bureau's crime statistic page: www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/bocsar 
  2. Outline the trends (patterns) in the statistics for murder, assault, motor vehicle theft, and break and enter into a dwelling.
  3. Are the trends discovered by the bureau similar to the perceptions of crime that seem to be held by most people in New South Wales? Why might this be the case?
  4. What are the 'crime hotspots' for break and enter into a dwelling, assault and motor vehicle theft? Show this on a map.

Tasks - Create a Speech:
  1. Situation: You are a law student working for legal activist association. This association works towards upholding justice and fairness. You have been asked to speak at a Law Reform Rally about one of the cases we have discussed today : King Hit Laws, Bikie Laws.You must decide whether you support or disagree with the proposed laws. 
  2. You are to write a short speech (maximum 2 minutes) to convince your audience to agree with you. 
  3. Your speech must include your statement of position, reasons for your stance, a re-occurring speech line (like a team line in debating) and examples to help convince your audience.
